The Wages of Irritation, Continued

This is what I received in response to my inquiry to KARS4Kids about what, exactly, they do with all the money they garner from accepting car donations.  Not exactly a model of full disclosure.  Like the disease charities I examined yesterday, it places too much emphasis on the donation and not enough on its purpose.  The moral of the story: if you send someone an e-mail saying, "I’ve read your mission statement; what do you do, exactly?" and s/he/it can’t be bothered to reply with anything beyond, "Read our mission statement," you shouldn’t be bothered writing a check–or giving away your car.

Thank you for your e-mail. Our organization is called Joy for Our Youth. We provide food, clothing, shelter and special designed programs for under privileged children nationwide. Approximately 74% goes to the charity; the rest goes to cover executive costs and we try to keep that to a minimum. We are registered as a 501(c) (3) non profit organization.  Our Tax ID number is 22-3746050. To learn more about our organization you can go visit our website at www.givejoy.org and click on mission statement.

If you would like to donate your car simply fill out a donation form online or call us at 877-527-7454. We can pick it up as long as you have the title and keys. A towing company will call and schedule a pick-up within 2-4 business days. Please contact us when the vehicle gets towed, and we will mail you the tax deductible receipt along with the hotel voucher.
