Assuring social justice . . .

or, at least, improving its chances: if by some miracle the Democrats take the House and the Senate tomorrow, they should make statehood for the District of Columbia their highest priority.  That would assure two additional Democratic Senate seats (and African-American Democratic Senate seats, at that) in perpetuity.  And if the Republicans insist on complementary statehood for Puerto Rico, let ’em: socially conservative Latino voters may be "natural" Republicans but wall-building and immigrant-bashing has just about taken care of that.  So with or without a 52nd state, we’re talking about a permanent majority in support of having government do its job.

And then we in the nonprofit sector could do ours.
