Making a Virtue of Necessity

The New York Times today has the loveliest story about the Chicago Sinfonietta‘s concert for cellphones and orchestra–a sort of, "If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em."  While the number of performance pieces for cellphone will necessarily be limited, there’s no limit to the kind of imagination the Sinfonietta showed.  However it came about, the group asked the right question–"What are we doing, and for whom?"–and came up with the right answer–"We’re helping people learn to listen."

Bravo!
